Do you have a hard time getting your kids to eat their green vegetables? I used to….
Every morning, my girls and I have this for breakfast together; but pay attention, this recipe is pretty difficult…(yes, that was sarcasm…)
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of blueberries (we alternate days with different kinds of berries)
- 1 banana
- handful of spinach (we prefer the baby leaf spinach; however sometimes I use kale)
- 1-2 broccoli stems (the girls really dislike the stems on their own, so this works out great)
- 1 cup of water (or more depending on your desired consistency)
- **optional** 1 tsp. agave nectar to sweeten your smoothie up a bit
What To Do:
1. Put all ingredients into a blender.
2. Push the blend button.
3. Blend until smooth (hence the name, smoothie)
Not only do girls love them…
…but I know they’re getting huge amounts of natural nutrients! Blueberries alone offer us calcium, manganese, fiber, and antioxidants, while spinach offers vitamin A & C, lutein, flavonoids, folic acid, and even more calcium.

I just started giving my family green smoothies every morning too! I love that they are nutrient packed! I also add 2-3 Tbs. ground flax seed to mine for the Omega-3s and fiber.
Angela – yes, I use ground flax for mine as well – great minds think alike
I LOVE this idea. Aidan, my 20 month old, only likes baby veggies all mashed up. What a good idea to add them to some fruit for a yummy morning smoothie! Definitely going to try this tomorrow! Thanks for the good idea Brittany.
Stephanie – My #3 is about 20 months also!! She feels like such a big girl when she uses a straw…it’s so much fun for her! I hope Aidan has fun too!
